YOUR VISIBILITY PROFILE
Make sure you're becoming known for the right things.
Why it matters
The clarity others need
Journalists, podcast producers and event organisers often need to understand who you are and what you know quickly. If your profile doesn't make that easy, opportunities can pass you by.
This short check helps you see whether your positioning is clear and whether you're becoming known for the right things.
Start here
WHAT DO YOU WANT TO BE KNOWN FOR?
Before you assess your profile, get clear on the direction:
What subject do people already come to me for? What do I want my name to become associated with? What perspective or experience makes my contribution useful? Has my positioning changed recently?
YOU DON'T NEED TO BE KNOWN FOR EVERYTHING. YOU NEED TO BE CLEAR ABOUT WHAT YOU WANT TO BE KNOWN FOR.

Your check
THE 5-POINT VISIBILITY CHECK
Work through each point to evaluate your profile.
- 1. IS YOUR CORE POSITIONING CLEAR? Could somebody unfamiliar with you understand your main expertise in around ten seconds?
- 2. DO YOUR PUBLIC PROFILES TELL THE SAME BASIC STORY? Website, LinkedIn, biographies, speaker profiles and other public pages should support the same basic professional identity.
- 3. IS THERE THIRD-PARTY EVIDENCE OF YOUR EXPERTISE? Useful signals may include press coverage, expert quotations, interviews, podcasts, guest articles and speaking appearances.
- 4. ARE YOUR EXPERT TOPICS SPECIFIC ENOUGH? Broad labels are harder to understand and match with opportunities. Specific expertise is easier for people — and systems — to recognise.
- 5. DOES YOUR DIGITAL FOOTPRINT REFLECT WHAT YOU DO NOW? Check whether recent work, current roles, new expertise, interviews, articles, podcasts and speaking appearances reflect your present positioning.
- WHAT HAS CHANGED? Note anything that is no longer current. Possible updates: positioning, expert topics, professional bio, job title, website, headshot, recent press, podcast appearances, speaking experience, subjects you want more opportunities around.
